Display
- From the startup screen, tap the “Maps…” button to load the maps into the application. Note that the maps must either be stored in the device memory
itself, or in a directory called /PALM/programs/map2hand/maps on an expansion card.
- Select a map to display
- Tap “View” to display the map
- Use the stylus to drag the map around the screen. Alternatively, if there is an overview image loaded, tap the
icon at the top of the display, and drag the red box on the overview map.
- Most hard keys are disabled when viewing a map. To close the display, tap the 'X' icon at the top right of the map.
- To switch off the display while viewing a map, you will first need to pause (use the power button on the m505/m515, or the voice memo
button on the Tungsten – other device buttons will be added during testing).
- If you have a number of maps at various resolutions for a particular point, you can zoom in/out using the up/down hard keys on your handheld.
Note that map files have to be converted into map2hand format using the desktop MapMaker.jar application
included in the distribution. A sample map, UKMainland.prc, has been included. This map will allow users
situated on the UK Mainland to quickly start using the application. Other users will have to obtain and calibrate a suitable map before the GPS functionality will work.
To display GPS location
If the map is calibrated correctly, and your current location corresponds to a position on the map, you should be able to test the GPS locator.
First of all, ensure that you have set the GPS baud rate or bluetooth device correctly (refer to the Preferences
section). If you do not know the baud rate of your device, please refer to the manufacturer.
Now, from the map display, tap the "MODE" icon at the top left of the display.
Select the "View/GPS" button from the resulting screen.
Tick the "Use GPS" checkbox, and tap "Done".
The map will be displayed again, and will communicate with the GPS device to obtain a position fix. Once one has been obtained, your position on the
map will be shown.
If, after 10 minutes or so, your position does still not appear to have been found, check the following:
- You are in a location that is on the map
- Your environment will not restrict the GPS receiver (e.g. poor clear sky visibility)
- You have set up the baud rate or bluetooth device correctly.
If you have checked all of the above, please contact the developer for further support.
